It’s Easy To Miss A Girl

It is easy to miss a girl
who is gone
Less so when she wants to know what time to expect you
We sparked like the Topsy elephant and died the same
They grabbed the shovels and so on
I cannot distinguish between memory or fantasy now that she is both
a living cat and an extinguished pussy
Trapped inside my skull

It is easy to miss a girl
when it’s raining
Less so under sunny skies or the influence
She wore thin black dresses and sunglasses as big as her face
and belonged to no one, not I to her
If I ever see her again, she’ll be on the arm of another,
a hero or a villain, a welcomed lover
A life on the other side of the world

It is easy to miss a girl
with inexhaustible longing
Yes, it’s damn easy
