We will never reclaim ‘love’ from reality television
or movie trailer soundtracks;
We will never bring ‘love’ back from the precipice of Christian t-shirts
or Eighties power ballads.
So why try?
Why are we still paying full price for tickets to the back row
when we always leave before the encore?
We live in expensive times and only work part-time
at staying together.
We will never discover ‘love’ on the virgin beaches of the New World
or in our genes.
So why look?
Why should we get our hopes up for letters in the mail
when everyone we know sleeps in our bed?
We will never experience ‘love’ like they did in the Sixties
or like our parents did
so, at least, for that
we can be grateful.
