A couple weeks ago, I was sitting at one of Madrid's many spectacular cafés with three friends and I asked them that cliché question that everybody hates, but which I think is worth contemplating from time to time: What would your ideal life look like?
Chapter VI: I arrived in Nashville defeated. I had crawled through San Francisco and Chicago amidst the worst of the Great Recession and come out the other side, officially in the latter half of 10 Cities/10 Years; I was drained, bitter, and ready to give up.
My home is where I rest my head at any given time, my home is any stop along I-70 or any town where a friend will share a drink with me. My home is the United States.
After finding a cheap hotel for Monday night, my second day in Nashville began.
Total driving time to Nashville was almost exactly 8 hours, though this was partially due to missing an exit and driving for about 15 minutes in the wrong direction. Oops. Oh well, all part of the road trip experience. If that is the worst mistake I make all week, it'll be a damn smooth trip. Of course, that won't be the worst mistake I make all week.
I've rented a car and the first leg of my trip will be a roughly 7 to 8 hour stretch taking me to Nashville, the 6th city of my project. It's been 2 years since I've been there and I'm excited to reconnect with my old friends.
