#MardiGras in #NewOrleans this year is looking very different compared to years past. Here are a collection of photos I took 8 years ago during the #mardigrasfestivities when I lived in #NOLA. Hope it's still a great day and by this time next year, the COVID situation is well behind us.
The first short story I ever had published took its name (and basic plot) from a #TomWaits song ("Bad Liver and a Broken Heart"). Years later, I met the man himself in the bookshop I worked at in San Francisco (@books_inc) and was too starstruck to say anything other than "I'm a big fan." He said, in his inimitable voice, "Thanks" and shook my hand.
On this historic #InaugrationDay on which @JoeBiden urges the nation to unify, here are two of my favorite photos taken from the opposite ends of #America, both showing how beautiful it can be. As a nation, the US is incredibly flawed, but it has its moments.
